The EUF-PUE`s focus on multilateral environmental agreements, which has been organised since 2004, aims to transfer past experience in the field of international environmental legislation and diplomacy to current and future negotiators of multilateral environmental agreements. The course also provides a forum to promote North-South cooperation and to take stock of developments in the negotiations and implementation of the MEA. We began yesterday morning with an incredible tour of the old legal library in @unisiena, and we learned how these old texts evolved to codify the international law we see today. 🌍🌳⚖️📚 #MEAcourse #Siena2019 The particular theme of this year`s course is “The Agenda for Biodiversity After 2020.” 2020 is the year of the world`s major environmental moments – Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CDB) at its 15th Conference of the Parties in October 2020 (COP-15 Kunming will adopt a new 10-year biodiversity conservation framework to replace the current Aïchi goals, which will be completed this year). All over the world, Biodiversity is the subject of a number of multilateral environmental agreements, including the Convention on Biological Diversity (CDB), the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA), the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, The World Heritage Convention (WHC), the International Convention on the Protection of Plants and Plants THE EUF-UN environmental policy on multilateral environmental agreements is a two-week line to MMAs, international environmental legislation and diplomacy. It is organized annually in collaboration with the University of East Flanders and the United Nations Environment Programme. Each year, it is a changing place of study and a thematic theme. The University of Eastern LaFin (UEF) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) are jointly organising a two-week high-level course on international environmental legislation and diplomacy. The course will take place from 17 to 27 August 2020 at the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, Finland.
The course is organised in collaboration with the Finnish government. Each course focuses on a specific theme of international environmental law and, through interactive conferences, workshops and excursions, the course allows participants with basic skills in international environmental legislation, diplomacy and negotiation in this specific area.
